About Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Church

Today, our Old Holy Resurrection congregation is enriched by several co-existing organizations. The Stevan Stojanovic Mokranjac Choir enhances our Liturgy through Divine song, our wonderful Sunday School program plays a vital role in educating and nurturing the faith of children and young adults, and our very own Circle of Serbian Sisters is dedicated to charitable, cultural, and humanitarian work . Under the guidance of our priest, Fr. Luka Lukić, our parishioners signify a commitment to spiritual growth, a connection to their fellow believers, and a desire to partake in the Divine Liturgy, where they seek guidance, peace, and unity with God.

Our Clergy

Proto Luka Lukic was born in 1956 in Osečina, near Valjevo, Serbia. He later lived in Sremski Karlovci, near Novi Sad, Serbia. He pursued his theological studies at the Faculty of Theology in Belgrade. On December 14, 1980, he was ordained as a Deacon and subsequently appointed as the parish priest in Borina, near Loznica, Serbia.

Father Luka has been decorated several times. His first decoration was in 1988 "the red belt" and then he was decorated in as protonamesnik in 1992 and finally, in 1995, he was pro-conceived onto the rank of protopresbyter.

History

Old Holy Resurrection Church has been part of the Serbian community in Chicago since 1905. After the split of the Serbian Church in America, parishes including Old Holy Resurrection that supported Bishop Dionisije organized a new and separate Church congregation in 1964. After renting many spaces, the church officially landed at it's current location 3062 W. Palmer Square Boulevard in 1966. Today’s parish home is a former Evangelical church converted to serve it's Orthodox services. This property was refurbished in 1968 and holds to be a landmark within the Palmer Square community.

We have two halls available for rent that are equipped to host events such as anniversary/retirement celebrations, birthday parties, Baptisms, engagement/wedding parties.
